BIFAS 2009 British Independent Film Awards
Nominations

Heading the film nominations for the BIFAS is director-writer Andrea Arnold's high-acclaimed British drama Fish Tank awarded eight and the Nathan Parker-scripted, Duncan Jones-directed space elergy Moon with seven nominations.

There have been some strong films from writers and directors this year. As well as Arnold and Jones there's Lone Scherfig, Jane Campion, and Armando Iannucci in the Best Director category.

Last year's BIFAS was dominated by Slumdog Millionaire.

The BIFAS are always hotly anticipated because they showcase some of each year's most interesting movies from around the world.

Created in 1998, The British Independent Film Awards set out to celebrate merit and achievement in independently funded British filmmaking, to honour new talent, and to promote British films and filmmaking to a wider public. It's been run by the indefatigable champion of independent film-making, Elliot Grove.
