The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has won 13 Oscar nominations and EVERYONE is talking not just about brilliant director David Fincher and Brad Pitt's career-high performance (both Fight Club). They're raving about the SCREENPLAY BY ERIC ROTH, nominated for the Oscar Best Adapted screenplay. READ THE SCREENPLAY THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ONE SCRIPT YOU MUST READ. It's Available Here.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: From Story to Screenplay gives Roth's outstandingly inventive screenplay and the Scott Fitzgerald short story.
It's a script that is inspiring and motivating for aspiring and experienced screenwriters alike.
The structure is a fascinating one. Plot threads come and go and disappear, fold back in reverse, as they weave magic and realism into a wonderful whole. And it's dark and funny by turns.
Most wondrous of all, it respects the intelligence of the audience.

"Dark and Romantic"
The film is loosely adapted from the 1922 short story of the same name written by legendary American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The story is about 80 year old Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt), who's born aging backwards.
Director David Fincher had this to say about the movie: "It's dark, it's romantic, and it also deals with mortality in a pretty unflattering way. Button is born in 1919 - with the film itself beginning in World War I, traveling around the world and carrying on all the way through to the year 2000."
The movie focuses on what happens when Benjamin falls in love with a 30 year old woman (Cate Blanchett).
Brad Pitt made his relatively small role in Thelma and Louise a memorable one back in 1991. His Tyler in Fight Club showed he was much more than a pretty face. That was an astonishing 10 years ago. Now, his acting in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is being described as the performance of his career. Compare his outstanding performance earlier in his career in Fight Club. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Screenwriter: Eric Roth. Director: David Fincher. Kennedy/Marshall. Paramount. Warner Bros
A Chequered History
The script had a chequered history.
In 1998, screenwriter Robin Swicord adapted a screenplay of the story for director Ron Howard. Then Paramount Pictures hired screenwriter Jim Taylor to adapt a screenplay from the short story. Director Spike Jonze was attached to direct at this point, and his frequent collaborator, screenwriter Charlie Kaufman had written a draft of the adapted screenplay. A new director Gary Ross was then attached to the project which was now based on a new draft by screenwriter Eric Roth. In 2004, director David Fincher entered negotiations to replace Ross as director. In May 2005, actors Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett were approached to star in the film.
