KATHRYN BIGELOW - BEST DIRECTOR. BEST PICTURE - OSCARS

Kathryn Bigelow's Acceptance Speech
"May they come home safe"

"I'd just like to dedicate this to the women and men in the military who risk their lives on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan and around the world. And may they come home safe." Kathryn Bigelow after picking up her Best Director award

Hoping this is the "first of many" Women to win the Prize.

Kathryn Bigelow has won the Best Director BAFTAS award, the first woman to do so. The Hurt Locker was also awarded the Best Film and four other awards. The awards were two of six for Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker, which also took best film as well as prizes for sound, editing, cinematography and original screenplay. Accepting her award from actor Clive Owen, Bigelow accepted the award from actor Clive Owen, saying it was “humbling and deeply moving” and dedicated it to “never abandoning the need to find a resolution to peace”.

She also said she hoped that she was the “first of many” women to win the prize. Bigelow is also tipped to become the first woman to win the best director at the Oscars in March.
